Built in 1908 of molded concrete block by noted architect William Daugherty, this home is a lovely hybrid of Greek Revival and Victorian Style. The outer walls resemble quarry stone, and the cedar shingle roof has been replaced by durable tin. The original wood trim remains in place as does the period finishings. The home was built for the father of Captain Everett E. Townsend, AKA the founder of Big Bend National Park. It was also owned by Frank and Jesse James' brother-in-law, Allen H. Parmer.
